The Bean
Grown organically at an elevation of about 5,500 feet, Diego’s bean classifies as a Strictly Hard Bean, smaller and denser than other coffees. At a medium roast, we preserve the unique flavors of the origin: hints of cocoa and a nutty aroma. With a medium acidity, a medium body, and a raw-sugar finish, our Guatemalan is our most balanced coffee.

The Family
Diego’s father, Carlos, was an expert in coffee. Managing the renowned Finca Vista Hermosa, home to three generations of coffee growers, he brought his expertise to his and his son’s farm, Finca San Diego, and together they planted a small crop.

When Carlos and another of his sons were stopped one day on the road back to the farm, robbed, and then shot and killed, their farm became a legacy. Soon after, we spent time with the family, bringing gifts for the children and watching them laugh and play even amidst such tragedy. It was huge for us as a company.  This is what relationships are about - sharing life together.  We continue to buy their coffee.

The Story
We continue to honor Carlos, Diego, and their families, by paying well above even Fair Trade premiums for their coffee. The past two years, they have received $1.72 per pound of green (unroasted) coffee beans. We put the money directly in their hands, forging bonds that go beyond business and ensuring excellence in their crop, and your cup. Diego’s story has become part of ours. And now yours.
